Cleaning stained carpets is one of the most tedious things to do especially if you don’t have a clue on how to remove these stubborn stains. Here are some tips on how to take off stains, eliminate bad odour, and retain your carpet’s appearance to its original beauty.
Our Top 7 Tips
Warm Water + Vinegar
You can never protect your carpet with liquid spills or pets’ urine. If this happens, use water and vinegar. In a bottle sprayer, place one part water, one part vinegar. Close the lid tightly and shake. Spray the solution on the stained area and let it soak for 10-15 minutes. Afterwards, use a clean sponge to soak the solution and stain. Repeat the process if stain is still visible. Then spray the area with warm water and brush it to regain the original color. Lastly, spread a couple of paper towels on the wet area to absorb the dampness of the carpet. This will dry in 24 hours, or use a blow dryer for faster results.
Dishwashing Detergent + Warm Water
For stubborn, and messy grease stains the main secret here is using dishwashing liquid and warm water. Place a few drops of dishwashing liquid and half a cup of warm water in your spray bottle, mix it well then spray it on the stained surface. Use a paper towel to blot it off. Make sure you won’t rub it or else it will only spread the stain. Repeat the process especially if the area stained is quite big.
Mild Detergent + Warm Water + Vinegar
This simple solution can remove stains like mud, salad dressing, gravy, blood, coffee, chocolate and other similar stains. Just put the solution in the spray container and do the same process with the instructions mentioned above.
Vacuum Cleaner
Small particles and dust can easily be removed by a vacuum cleaner of good quality. Carpets and rugs must be cleaned regularly to prolong the life of the carpet. Pass through each section of the carpet several times to remove all of the dust and dirt accumulated especially on the parts people usually step on. Placing a couple of spoons of baking soda in the vacuum bag can prevent bad odour accumulated through time. Don’t forget to discard this every now and then.
Carpet Freshener
Make your own carpet freshener by mixing these ingredients:
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
- half cup of crushed rosemary or lavender
Mix these ingredients well then sprinkle it all over your carpet. Let it stay for fifteen to thirty minute then clean it up with your vacuum cleaner. Your carpet will not just be clean but it’ll smell good, too!
Ice Cubes
Ice cubes can do magic on your carpet for sticky gums and candle wax getting stuck on the carpet or rug. All you have to do is freeze the wax or gum by placing a cube or two on top of the area. Press it down with a little pressure. The gum or wax must harden in no time, all you have to do it pull it off to remove that eyesore on your carpet.
Cloth + Iron
For smaller stains like crayons and smaller drops of candle wax, you can remove it by placing a cloth on top of the affected area, iron it, and blot it with a cloth dipped in warm water, you may need to put a little pressure when blotting. Repeat the process until the stain is gone.
However, keep in mind that the best way to have your home carpet clean, steam carpet cleaning is the best method!
